Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA) has marked a milestone in Mexico by delivering the first of two electric Freightliner eCascadia to Transportes Esteban, a leading freight transportation company with 22 years of experience. This Class 8 electric truck will operate in the daily activities of Daimler Truck Mexico’s truck manufacturing plant in Santiago.
Simultaneously, this plant became home to Mexico’s second commercial vehicle charging facility for electric heavy-duty truck charging. Drawing on the experience of DTNA’s Portland site, where the first “Electric Island” was established in 2021, the Mexican subsidiary continues to focus on customer needs and requests.
Marcela Barreiro, president and CEO of Daimler Truck Mexico, celebrated this historic moment, highlighting the start of operations of the first electric Freightliner in Mexico with Transportes Esteban and the inauguration of the second Electric Island at the Santiago plant, promoting the development and implementation of new technologies.
The second “Electric Island” charging station, within the Santiago TMP plant, supports the integration of the eCascadia into the plant’s daily logistics operations. This investment is part of a project to reduce the plant’s emissions, using DTNA’s advanced technology.
The installation includes a Detroit eFill charger of up to 120kW, which can charge 80% of the eCascadia battery in 220 minutes, using management software to optimize energy consumption and integrate information from the vehicle, stations and the charging process.
Since production in 2022, the eCascadia has been delivered to more than 50 fleets in North America, accumulating more than 3.5 million electric miles in real-world applications to date.
With this and future deliveries, Daimler Truck Mexico advances the transition to zero-emission mobility and reaffirms its commitment to sustainable transformation.
